About me
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Deion S. Hawkins, PhD currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Argumentation & Advocacy and Health & Social Change at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. As a critical health scholar, Deion remains committed to advancing equity and fighting racism and other systems of oppression in public health. With over a dozen peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, his research can be found in Health Communication, Social Media + Society, Frontiers in Health Communication, Rhetoric of Health & Medicine, and the Routledge Handbook of Health Communication. Dr. Hawkins proudly serves his community and uses his academic privilege for social good. Thus, he was recently elected to the Board of Directors for Boston Healthcare For The Homeless Program and serves as the Coalition Manager HIV Racial Justice Now coalition! (HRJN).
